A private wind farm near Tangier, Morocco, operated by ACWA Power, is demonstrating a novel approach to renewable energy distribution. The Jbel Sendouq site features 40 wind turbines with a 120 MW capacity and is exceeding projected energy production. Unlike traditional models, this project directly sells decarbonized electricity to industrial clients, bypassing the need for public sector risk assumption. This direct sales model offers a stable energy supply and reduces financial burden on the government. The success of the Khalladi project positions it as a potential blueprint for wider adoption of privately-funded renewable energy initiatives in Morocco. It highlights a growing trend of direct power purchase agreements between renewable energy generators and private businesses. The farm serves as a showcase for a relatively uncommon practice within the Moroccan energy sector.
