Mongolia imported a total of $8.4 billion worth of goods in the first eight months of 2026, with petroleum products leading the way, accounting for 22.1 percent of all imports, totaling $1.9 billion. Passenger vehicle imports reached $711.9 million and cargo truck imports $309.1 million. While imports of gasoline and diesel fuel increased compared to the same period last year, imports of passenger and cargo vehicles decreased. Food imports saw increases in wheat, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and livestock products. Specifically, wheat imports rose dramatically – 13.8 times higher, reaching 133,000 tons – while sugar increased by 17.8 percent to 46.9 thousand tons, and fruits and nuts grew by 38.2 percent to 57.4 thousand tons. According to the General Customs Administration, imports of mutton, pork, and lard also increased by 29.4 percent to 35.9 thousand tons.
