Mongolian authorities have identified 399 high-risk locations near major lakes and rivers prone to water accidents. This initiative follows a five-year period, from 2021-2025, during which 537 water-related incidents were recorded, resulting in 464 fatalities. The majority of deaths – 68 percent – occurred in rivers, while 20 percent happened in lakes and 12 percent in reservoirs. Patrols, including boat and mobile units, are being deployed to these identified “black spots” to enhance safety and preventative measures. The government aims to reduce drowning incidents through increased surveillance and public awareness campaigns. These efforts are a direct response to the significant number of lives lost to water accidents in recent years.
