Mongolia is centralizing its procurement of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to reduce costs and ensure availability. Health Minister E. Batshugar announced plans to procure 179 essential medicines from a single source, sending requests for proposals to organizations in Poland, Turkey, South Korea, and UN agencies like UNDP, UNOPS, and UNICEF. This follows a successful 2026 procurement of recombinant factor for hemophilia, which saved 350 million tugriks through reduced unit costs. A 2025 analysis revealed 209.6 billion tugriks spent on 424 types of drugs, prompting efforts to eliminate overlap and improve efficiency. The Ministry is also collecting usage forecasts from hospitals to address potential shortages and has secured a contract with UNDP to supply medications for 4,909 citizens, preventing disruptions in treatment. These initiatives aim to strengthen healthcare access and resource management in Mongolia.
