Mongolia observes Remembrance Day for victims of political repression annually on September 10th. The country’s Prosecutor General’s Office has been working to implement laws regarding the exoneration of individuals affected by political repression and providing them with compensation. This work involves investigating cases based on requests from the State Commission for Rehabilitation and applications from citizens. Since 1990, the Prosecutor’s Office has overseen 24,907 cases related to the law on rehabilitating victims of political repression—exonerating 2,779 individuals who were arrested and investigated. Furthermore, protests and conclusions were submitted to the Supreme Court regarding 24,592 convicted individuals, leading to their exoneration. In the last five years, 993 cases were reopened and investigated based on newly discovered circumstances, resulting in the exoneration of 243 people, with 169 exonerated by the Prosecutor’s Office and 74 by decisions from the Supreme Court, according to the General Prosecutor's Office.
