Mongolian energy sector workers are set to begin a nationwide strike on June 30th, following failed negotiations over wage increases. The Mongolian Energy, Geology, and Mining Workers' Union initiated collective bargaining in January 2026, but the Ministry of Energy repeatedly stated it could not accommodate pay raises. Workers staged peaceful protests in April, demanding action, but no agreement was reached. A previous agreement stipulated wage discussions for 2026 by October 2025, which did not occur. With mediation failing, the union has legally authorized the strike. Approximately 95% of the 6,600 participating workers across 28 out of 35 energy organizations have voted in favor of the action, representing a significant disruption to the sector. Union officials state the strike is legally justified and will proceed without external interference.
