Mohanpur, a region in Rajshahi, has gained a visible symbol of its recognized Geographical Indication (GI) product – the betel leaf. A boundary pillar adorned with a betel leaf symbol has been erected at the entrance of Mohanpur upazila, fulfilling a long-standing desire of local residents. This landmark aims to not only define the geographical boundaries of the upazila but also to strengthen its agricultural identity and economic prospects. Locals believe the pillar will promote the region’s brand recognition, celebrating its historical betel leaf cultivation. The installation marks a significant step in preserving and promoting the area’s unique heritage. This initiative underscores the importance of agriculture to Mohanpur’s identity and future. The pillar was inaugurated on Monday, July 20th.
