MobilePay will not currently function on the new Jolla Phone, according to reports. Vipps MobilePay’s Finland country manager, Perttu Kröger, confirmed the incompatibility stems from issues with the Jolla Phone’s Sailfish operating system. While the Jolla Phone generally supports Android applications, MobilePay is an exception to this functionality. Kröger explained this is due to strict security, regulatory compliance, and audit requirements that the MobilePay Android app must meet. The app needs to verify both the device and application environment's reliability. This poses a challenge with Sailfish OS, preventing MobilePay from operating as intended. Jolla Phone buyers will, for now, need to rely on alternative payment methods.
