The son of Senegal’s Minister of Culture, Mouhamed Thiam, has been detained following a traffic accident. He was arrested by the Ngor gendarmerie brigade and charged with driving with a false permit and causing unintentional injuries. Thiam appeared before the Dakar prosecutor on Friday and was subsequently remanded in custody. The charges stem from an accident where he allegedly injured someone. He is scheduled to appear in court this Wednesday at the Dakar flagrant délit tribunal. The case has drawn attention due to the defendant’s familial connection to a high-ranking government official.
