Bangladesh’s State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Anind Islam Amit, stated in Parliament that invoking the phrase “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great) cannot be used to justify bank robbery. He was quoting Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed’s remarks on the matter. The statement came during the 16th day of the 2nd and 1st budget session of the 13th National Parliament, while discussing the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Amit asserted that the religious declaration offers no legitimacy for criminal acts like bank theft. The Minister’s comments address concerns about potential misuse of religious slogans to rationalize unlawful behavior. This clarification was made during parliamentary debate on the national budget. The government aims to firmly discourage the association of religious expressions with criminal activity.
