Mongolia’s Minister of Education L. Enkh-Amgalan has refuted claims of political favoritism in the allocation of funds within the 2026 state budget revisions for the education sector. The controversy centers around allegations that a private school connected to Prime Minister N. Ukral was included among those receiving funding under initiatives like “Schools Near Home” and the establishment of specialized high schools. Minister Enkh-Amgalan denounced the spreading of “false information” as a politically motivated attempt to discredit the government. She highlighted the significant role private schools play in supporting the education system, currently serving approximately 80,000 students across 180 institutions. The Minister firmly stated that no list has been approved to provide funding or equipment to private schools as part of the revised budget. The “Schools Near Home” initiative, launched in May 2026, aims to reduce class sizes and eliminate the need for three shifts of classes, and has already seen 21 new classrooms open in districts of the capital city, Ulaanbaatar.
