A majority of journalists from “Metrash” have reportedly experienced torture and mistreatment while detained at facilities run by the “National Security” apparatus. Following their arrests, the journalists were allegedly coerced into recording fabricated confessions. This occurred prior to their appearance before the Supreme State Security Prosecution yesterday, according to a statement by the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights. Journalist Mohamed Ashraf Abu Amira was interrogated by “State Security” from Saturday evening until Sunday morning and was held for 15 days pending investigation. His five colleagues subsequently appeared before the prosecution on Sunday evening. The allegations highlight concerns regarding due process and human rights within the Egyptian justice system. Further investigation is needed to verify the claims of abuse and coercion.
