Meta has re-launched its social media platform, Threads, in Turkey following a nearly two-year suspension. The service was initially halted in 2022 due to an interim measure imposed by the Turkish Competition Authority, citing concerns regarding data sharing practices between Threads and Instagram. The Authority announced on Tuesday it had lifted the measure after Meta implemented changes to address these concerns. The initial block stemmed from the Authority’s belief that Meta’s data practices posed a potential risk to competition. With the regulatory hurdle cleared, Turkish users can now once again access and utilize the Threads platform. The move signifies a resolution in the dispute between Meta and Turkish regulators regarding data privacy and market competition.
