Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accused the Five Star Movement (Cinquestelle) of manipulating video footage of her expressions during a parliamentary session. The dispute arose after the Five Star Movement posted a video of leader Giuseppe Conte’s speech to the Chamber of Deputies, incorporating reaction shots purportedly of Meloni. Meloni claims she was at the Quirinal Palace (Presidential residence) at the time the footage was allegedly taken, and therefore could not have been present in Parliament. She has labelled the video a “mistification” and questioned how her expressions were added to the recording. The incident has ignited a political firestorm, following earlier heated exchanges between a Five Star Movement deputy and Meloni during the parliamentary session. The authenticity of the video and the accusations of manipulation are currently under scrutiny.
