A man from Ede has been sentenced to eight years in prison and compulsory psychiatric treatment (tbs) for a series of crimes committed between August and October last year. The crimes began with assaults on a 34-year-old woman in a forest near Bennekom and a 16-year-old girl on a park bench, followed by multiple thefts. The situation escalated in early October with a violent home invasion targeting an 87-year-old woman, where he repeatedly threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, leaving her for dead. Police discovered the woman after being alerted by a concerned neighbor and family. The victim continues to suffer from the trauma of the assault and violence. Psychological evaluations revealed the man suffers from multiple mental health disorders, significantly reducing his culpability, and led the court to follow recommendations for tbs with compulsory treatment. He is also ordered to pay €45,000 to the elderly victim and €2,000 to the other assaulted woman.
