A 63-year-old man has died after a car he was traveling in plunged into the water at the ferry approach in Dordrecht, en route to Werkendam, on Tuesday evening around 9:30 PM. A 62-year-old woman and a teenager were also in the vehicle and are currently hospitalized with their condition unknown. Emergency services successfully rescued and resuscitated all three occupants, but the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident occurred at the ‘de Biesbosch’ ferry entrance, a location that has seen similar accidents in recent years, including a fatal incident in December 2024. Despite the municipality installing additional warning signs following the previous fatality, concerns remain about visibility at the location, which relatives described as a "black hole" at night. The local government maintains that current lighting meets the required standards, but multiple incidents—also occurring in 2020 and 2022—indicate ongoing safety issues at the Dordrecht ferry approach.
