A man was detained at the air force base in Leeuwarden following a bomb threat, according to a spokesperson for the Royal Marechaussee. The individual reportedly shouted that he had a bomb with him. Earlier in the afternoon, a suspicious package was discovered at the main gate of the base, currently under investigation by the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. It is currently unclear whether the package impacts air traffic at the Leeuwarden air base, which hosts F-35s and Reaper drones. A similar suspicious package was also found this morning in Bunnik near the Military Post Organization (MPO). The MPO building was evacuated, but the package was determined to be safe and personnel have since returned, according to RTV Utrecht. The MPO handles mail for military personnel stationed abroad. The connection between the two packages remains unknown.
