The Malaysian government, through its communications and digital ministry agency J-KOM (Jabatan Komunikasi Komunikasi), is increasing its focus on social media engagement. This initiative aims to counter misinformation and strengthen public understanding of government policies. J-KOM will be actively deploying strategic communication efforts across various social media platforms to reach a wider audience within Malaysia. The agency plans to utilise diverse content formats, including text, images, and videos, to deliver its message effectively. J-KOM’s approach will involve proactive engagement with online communities and collaboration with influencers. The agency’s spokesperson highlighted the importance of controlling the narrative and addressing false claims circulating online, particularly concerning sensitive national issues. This push comes amid growing concerns regarding the spread of “fake news” and its potential impact on public discourse in Malaysia.
