SIS Forum, a Malaysian organization, is advocating for the drafting of legislation to address financial support for spouses and children. Executive Director Rozana Isa stated the proposed law aims to rectify inequalities experienced by those not receiving adequate support. The legislation would seek to ensure fairer financial provisions within families. Currently, there is no specific law in Malaysia comprehensively covering spousal and child maintenance, leaving many vulnerable. SIS Forum believes a dedicated law is crucial to protect the rights of both partners and children, particularly in cases of separation or divorce. The group hopes the proposed legislation will provide a clearer legal framework for determining appropriate levels of financial support. This initiative responds to concerns about financial hardship faced by individuals and families lacking sufficient resources post-relationship breakdown.
