Malaysia’s National Blood Centre is launching an initiative to significantly boost the nation’s blood donation rate. The centre’s goal is to reach a minimum of three percent of the current population actively donating blood. This increase is deemed crucial to maintaining a consistent and adequate blood supply for the country’s healthcare needs. Demand for blood is steadily rising, necessitating a proactive approach to donor recruitment. Currently, the donation rate falls below this target, creating potential vulnerabilities in the blood supply chain. The centre hopes this new target will ensure sufficient reserves to meet both routine and emergency medical requirements across Malaysia.
