A multi-vehicle collision on the A9 highway in Thuringia, Germany, injured 34 people, including several children. The incident occurred after an earlier accident had already caused traffic congestion and the formation of a ‘Rettungsgasse’ – a rescue lane for emergency vehicles. A camper van driver failed to notice the emergency lane and crashed into multiple stationary cars, impacting a total of nine vehicles, including two vans transporting children and their eight caretakers. Injuries ranged from minor to moderate, with no life-threatening conditions reported. The highway was closed for approximately 5.5 hours while rescue and recovery operations took place. Police estimate the property damage to be around 350,000 euros.
