Policy analyst Senyo Hosi, of the One Ghana Movement, has expressed significant disappointment with President John Dramani Mahama’s recent appointments to the Electoral Commission (EC) in Ghana. Specifically, Hosi cited the appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as a Deputy Chairperson as a major letdown. Agbenyo’s prior role as a spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto and Director of Legal Affairs for the party’s Women’s Wing has raised concerns about potential bias. The appointments, which also include Dr. Joseph Kwaku Asamoah as a Deputy Chairperson, have drawn criticism from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NPP has formally requested the withdrawal of Agbenyo’s appointment, alleging a conflict of interest. Hosi’s statement suggests a broader concern that these appointments do not represent the “reset” voters desired.
