A son of a financial crimes magistrate in Dakar, Senegal, has been arrested on suspicion of stealing over 25 million CFA francs (approximately $40,000 USD) from his father. The investigation began following an anonymous tip about a large financial transaction in a parking lot. Police apprehended the suspect and three accomplices as they were finalizing the purchase of a vehicle, allegedly funded by the stolen money. Initially, the group claimed the funds came from sports betting, but this story quickly unraveled during questioning. The son confessed to taking the money from his father’s home, though he initially couldn’t specify the amount. A subsequent count revealed 25,475,000 CFA francs in cash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft and the extent of the accomplices’ involvement.
