A team of researchers has significantly expanded the known alphabet of the ancient Sidetic language, bringing experts closer to understanding this lost Anatolian tongue. Excavations at the ancient city of Side in Turkey’s Antalya province have yielded new insights into the Sidetic script, increasing the identified letters from previous counts to a total of 31. The work is being directed by Professor Feriştah Alanyalı of Anadolu University, who leads the ongoing archaeological efforts at the site. This discovery represents a crucial step forward in the study of Sidetic, a language previously understood through limited inscriptions. Researchers hope the expanded alphabet will unlock further understanding of the Sidetic people and their history. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of ancient languages and cultures in Anatolia. Further analysis of inscriptions using the expanded alphabet is planned.
