Jens Eide, a butcher in Lillesand, Norway, is disputing claims made in a report by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) alleging the sale of meat intended for dogs to human consumers. The report indicated that the Slakter Jens Eide establishment allegedly sold meat designated for canine consumption to people. Eide asserts that this is a misinterpretation, stating the products were requested by customers from countries where offal is part of the diet. During an inspection, authorities discovered 10-kilo boxes labeled "halal ox tripe" and "halal lamb tripe" at the butcher’s factory outlet, leading to an immediate sales ban. Company representatives clarified that while these products are primarily intended for dog food, some are sold for human consumption in certain cultures, but the majority is processed into dog food sausages. Eide requested a meeting with Mattilsynet to address the issue, but a meeting wasn’t available until Friday.
