Lebanon is seeking an international security presence in southern Lebanon as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) nears the end of its mandate. This request was discussed during a visit to Beirut by the French Foreign Minister, where meetings were held with Lebanese officials, including President Aoun. The discussions focused on establishing a post-UNIFIL security arrangement to maintain stability in the region. Lebanon also announced that the next round of talks with Israel will be held on Tuesday in Florida, addressing ongoing border and security concerns. These negotiations represent a critical attempt to proactively address potential security gaps following UNIFIL’s possible departure. The Lebanese government emphasizes the importance of a continued international presence to prevent escalations and ensure long-term peace in Southern Lebanon. The outcome of both the Florida talks and the arrangements for a new international force remain uncertain.
