The People’s Committee of Huế City has issued a plan to pilot the teaching and learning of the Lao language as a foreign language for first and sixth-grade students. The program will be implemented in nine schools located in five border communes that share a border with Laos. This initiative is scheduled to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. The aim is to facilitate communication and cultural exchange with neighboring Laos. This pilot program reflects Huế’s strategic location and its commitment to fostering regional cooperation. Authorities hope the program will strengthen ties between the communities on both sides of the border and provide students with valuable linguistic skills. The selection of schools focuses on those in areas with significant interaction with Lao populations.
