Four men were killed Monday in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). According to the Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR), the men were repairing a water pipeline in Hajira tehsil when the landmine, reportedly originating from the Indian side, detonated. All four workers died immediately at the scene. Officials state the incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by unexploded landmines due to unclear border demarcation along the LoC, threatening both civilians and livestock. Poonch Divisional Commissioner Sardar Waheed Khan attributed the planting of the mine to the Indian Army. Former AJK prime minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi condemned the killings, blaming India’s actions and the unresolved Kashmir dispute for the continued loss of life.
