Kyrgyzstan is considering amendments to Article 164 of its Criminal Code to introduce criminal liability for unauthorized burials in cemeteries, as well as for exhumation and reburial conducted without the necessary permissions. The proposed changes have been released for public discussion. Currently, such actions are not specifically addressed with criminal penalties. The amendments aim to regulate burial practices and prevent disputes arising from unauthorized use of cemetery land in Kyrgyzstan. If approved, individuals found guilty of these offenses could face up to three years in prison. This move reflects a growing concern over proper management and respect for burial sites within the country.
