An international “aytysh” – a traditional improvisational poetry contest – between Kyrgyz and Kazakh poets will be held from September 2nd to 4th, 2026. The event will take place at the Kyrchyn jailoo (alpine pasture) in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. It is scheduled as part of the VI World Nomad Games. The “aytysh” will showcase the poetic skills of “akyns,” who are renowned improvisational performers in both Kyrgyz and Kazakh cultures. This competition aims to celebrate and preserve this unique art form. The location, Kyrchyn, is expected to provide a beautiful and culturally appropriate backdrop for the event, adding to the overall atmosphere of the Nomad Games. The event promises to be a highlight of the Games, attracting enthusiasts of both poetry and nomadic traditions.
