The Slovak Parliament was scheduled to debate the so-called “Kuffa’s amendment” to the Nature Protection Act, currently in its second reading. The amendment was initially proposed in Spring 2025 by SNS party MPs Milan Garaj, Adam Lučanský, and Dagmar Kramplová. In January 2025, MPs presented the bill alongside Filip Kuffa, the SNS candidate for Minister of the Environment, stating it was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment. However, a revising proposal has emerged at the last minute, nearly two years after the initial push for the law. The amendment’s progression has been notably protracted, facing delays before reaching this stage of parliamentary discussion. This late revision introduces uncertainty regarding the amendment’s final form and potential impact on environmental regulations in Slovakia.
