The New Pantai Expressway Extension (NPE 2 Extension) in Kuala Lumpur has been engineered to accommodate a potential multi-lane free flow (MLFF) tolling system. This design anticipates a future where tolls are collected without requiring vehicles to slow down or stop. While the infrastructure is prepared, the actual implementation of MLFF is dependent on decisions made by the Malaysian government regarding tolling policy. The project proactively builds capacity for this technology, offering a smoother traffic experience should the system be adopted. Currently, the NPE 2 Extension is ready for the MLFF system, but its activation isn’t guaranteed. The move reflects a broader industry trend towards more efficient and less disruptive toll collection methods. Ultimately, the government will determine if and when to transition to this advanced tolling approach.
