Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police are establishing a 400-personnel Special Combat Unit (SCU) to conduct targeted operations against terrorists. Approved by the KP Police Policy Board, the unit will be drawn from the police’s elite force and undergo rigorous testing – medical, psychological, and physical – and will be relieved of standard policing duties. The SCU’s operational model aligns with international standards, deploying 45-personnel companies to sensitive regions for 90-day rotations under district police command. Following each deployment, personnel will undergo 30 days of advanced combat training and experience sharing. The initiative, hailed as a milestone by the Inspector General of Police, will equip officers with modern technology, including drones and specialized skills like sniping and close-quarters combat. The KP police state their priority remains eradicating militancy and protecting citizens.
