BIRN has launched “Exodus ‘99,” an exhibition detailing the wartime expulsion of Kosovo Albanians during the 1999 conflict. The exhibition is housed within a freight wagon, symbolically representing the method of deportation used by Serbian forces. It features firsthand testimonies from Kosovo Albanians who were forcibly removed from their homes and transported by rail. The exhibit forms part of BIRN’s Reporting House museum, dedicated to documenting war crimes and human rights abuses. “Exodus ‘99” aims to preserve the memories and experiences of those affected by the mass expulsion. The exhibition offers a poignant look into a specific, harrowing aspect of the Kosovo War. It serves as a reminder of the human cost of the conflict and the importance of accountability.
