Launched in November 2023 with a $10 million goal, the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP) aimed to renovate the aging Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. The project garnered significant financial backing from a wide range of donors, including government officials, corporations, and private citizens. Despite raising tens of millions of cedis within two years, the individuals who registered the project are reportedly refusing to provide a financial accounting or formally transfer control to the hospital administration (KATH). The hospital infrastructure, some of which hadn’t been renovated in almost 70 years, remains in need of repair. This lack of transparency and handover is raising questions about the project’s progress and the use of donated funds. Concerns are growing regarding the future of the renovation efforts and the accountability of those currently managing the HeKAP initiative.
