A three-month-old kitten named Pielle has been officially adopted as the mascot of the local police force in Loano, Italy. Found as a stray, Pielle quickly charmed the officers and has since become a hugely popular figure on the police department’s social media channels. While not issuing traffic tickets – yet – Pielle is considered a full member of the team and assists in disseminating important public safety messages, particularly regarding road safety. The police department intends to train Pielle to participate in patrols and, in the near future, to provide pet therapy to the elderly and people with disabilities. His presence has been a morale booster for the officers and a positive public relations tool for the Loano police. Pielle's story highlights the positive interactions between local authorities and animals.
