The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, stated on Wednesday that emergency rule or governor’s rule would be implemented if the prime minister and president deemed it necessary to address terrorism and “save the province.” These remarks were made during a discussion on Geo News’ ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’ regarding the escalating security situation. Kundi referenced past instances of such measures, citing a previous emergency imposed in Balochistan due to law and order issues. He acknowledged the need to prioritize establishing peace within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, deferring discussion of the sustainability of such rule until its imposition is decided. The possibility of federal intervention follows warnings to the PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding their planned protest march demanding the release of Imran Khan. Federal ministers have also highlighted security concerns as justification for potential action, and recent meetings, including one with the Interior Minister, have focused on the province’s political and security climate.
