The funeral for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s recently deceased supreme leader, was held on Sunday in Tehran. State television footage showed three of Khamenei’s sons – Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud – participating in prayers beside the coffins of their father and four other family members. Significantly, Mojtaba Khamenei, widely expected to succeed his father as supreme leader, was not present at the ceremony. His absence has sparked questions regarding the succession process in Iran. The funeral took place at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla, a large religious complex. The lack of Mojtaba’s appearance is noteworthy as he has already assumed many of his father’s duties. This has introduced uncertainty as to the future leadership of the Islamic Republic.
