Kenya’s Chief Justice Martha Koome advocated for greater financial support for Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) nationwide. Addressing the 4th National AJS Conference at the University of Embu, Koome emphasized that sufficient funding is essential for the continued development and viability of these systems. AJS offer avenues for resolving disputes outside of traditional court proceedings, potentially easing the burden on the formal judicial system. The Chief Justice highlighted the importance of AJS in enhancing access to justice for all citizens. Increased budgetary allocation would facilitate the expansion and effective implementation of AJS programs across the country. This move aims to promote more accessible and efficient dispute resolution mechanisms within Kenya’s legal framework.
