Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Shanghai on July 16th to reinforce their countries’ longstanding “eternal comprehensive strategic partnership.” The leaders signed a new roadmap outlining economic cooperation plans for the years 2027-2030. The agreement focuses on bolstering collaboration across multiple sectors, including trade and investment. Notably, the partnership will also extend to emerging fields like artificial intelligence. Regional security concerns were also discussed during the talks, signalling a broader scope of cooperation. This renewed commitment aims to further strengthen the already significant economic relationship between Kazakhstan and China. The meeting occurred before other engagements, indicating the importance of this bilateral discussion.
