Moneybox, a prominent karaoke chain, is investing NT$600 million (approximately US$19 million) in a resort project in Kenting, Taiwan, marking a significant step in its diversification strategy. The project, initially announced in 2018, aims to transform the company beyond its traditional karaoke business. However, Lan Tai-sheng, a spokesperson for Moneybox, revealed challenges in developing a planned complex shopping mall component of the resort. These difficulties stem from bureaucratic hurdles and complex regulations surrounding land use and development in the Kenting National Park area. The resort is intended to attract a broader customer base and capitalize on Taiwan’s tourism sector. Moneybox hopes this venture will serve as a test case for future expansion and diversification efforts. The company is navigating regulatory obstacles while attempting to establish a new presence in the hospitality industry.
