A crude oil pipeline operated by National Refinery Limited (NRL) ruptured in Karachi’s DHA Phase VI on Saturday night, prompting a public safety and environmental advisory from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa). The leak occurred on Khayaban-e-Sehar, and NRL’s response team initiated containment and clean-up operations, collecting over 20 drums of leaked oil. Excavation is underway to pinpoint and halt the source of the leak, with authorities directing the safe disposal of contaminated materials like soil and sludge according to environmental laws. Sepa is monitoring the situation and has instructed NRL to fully contain the spill and assess its environmental impact. The Sindh government has prioritized citizen protection and pollution prevention, coordinating with relevant agencies.
