Dutch police are investigating three suspects believed to be responsible for a series of jewelry store robberies in Emmeloord, Sneek, and Hengelo last December, totaling hundreds of thousands of euros in stolen gold. The thieves reportedly utilized a cloned or intercepted remote control signal to raise security shutters at the targeted stores. Surveillance footage shows the perpetrators arriving by car, forcing entry, and then systematically emptying display cases before fleeing. Police highlighted that security shutters are an effective deterrent when used in conjunction with other security measures like reinforced glass and alarms. Investigators believe the thieves exploited a vulnerability in the shutter’s remote control system, which operates on a coded signal. Authorities emphasize that not all shutters are susceptible to this method and preventative measures exist to mitigate the risk of manipulation.
