Japan is planning to establish a dedicated support agency for former Self-Defense Force (SDF) personnel as early as fiscal year 2027. The initiative, led by Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, aims to ease the transition of veterans into civilian life. This agency will function as a comprehensive, one-stop consultation center, offering guidance and resources to those leaving military service. Currently, support is fragmented, leaving many ex-SDF members navigating the process independently. The new agency seeks to address this gap by providing centralized assistance with employment, education, and healthcare. This development reflects a growing recognition of the need to better support those who have served in the Japan Self-Defense Forces. The agency aims to ensure a smoother and more successful reintegration into society for departing personnel.
