The first day of the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix, hosted by the International Judo Federation (IJF), saw competition in the men’s 60kg and 66kg, and women’s 48kg, 52kg, and 57kg weight classes. A total of 454 judokas from 58 countries participated in the event. The Japanese team achieved a remarkable victory, winning gold in four of the five weight categories contested. Uta Abe of Japan secured her 12th Grand Prix gold medal in the women’s 52kg division, marking a highlight of the day. Azerbaijan won one gold and one bronze medal, while France, Italy, China, and Russia each claimed a silver medal, with 15 nations earning medals overall. Mongolia’s B. Sukhbat earned a bronze medal in the men’s 60kg category. The competition continues tomorrow with further medal events in the 73kg, 81kg (men) and 63kg, 70kg (women) divisions.
