Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan has announced 510 nationwide sit-ins commencing Friday, protesting the government’s petroleum levy and rising fuel prices. JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman warned that peaceful protests could escalate into an anti-government movement if authorities intervene. The party demands a reduction in petrol prices to Rs225 per litre, labeling the current levy as "extortion." Rehman criticized the government’s spending on luxuries despite collecting substantial revenue through the levy, alleging a lack of investment in oil infrastructure. He further stated that the government is disconnected from the economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens, particularly women. The JI is urging the government to address public demands and warned of potential consequences if they fail to do so, claiming abolishing the levy could help the economy recover.
