Severe flooding in Côte d’Ivoire has resulted in 59 confirmed fatalities since May, according to the country’s communication minister. The ongoing rainy season, lasting from May to July, is proving increasingly deadly, hampering rescue efforts to locate further victims. Neighbouring Ghana has also reported 13 deaths due to the torrential rains. Benin, Togo, and Nigeria are similarly experiencing widespread flooding, indicating a regional crisis. Authorities fear the death toll in Côte d’Ivoire could increase as search operations continue. The increasingly severe rainy seasons pose a growing threat across West Africa, raising concerns about disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
