The city of Pavia, Italy has initiated patrols dedicated to monitoring pet ownership and enforcing related regulations. Launched in early August, these “zoo police” units have already inspected over 50 animals and issued numerous fines. The initiative aims to address issues stemming from irresponsible pet ownership, specifically concerns about cleanliness. According to coordinator Zizzi, the patrols’ primary function is to ensure compliance with existing rules concerning animal care and public spaces. The move signals a growing awareness of the importance of pet owner responsibility in maintaining public hygiene and animal welfare standards. Authorities hope the increased vigilance will deter negligent behavior and promote a cleaner, more harmonious environment for both residents and their animal companions. The patrols are expected to continue their work throughout the summer and beyond.
