Italy is evaluating the implementation of mobile excise duties on fuel, a measure that would utilize excess VAT revenue to stabilize fuel prices. Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, stated the Economy Ministry is assessing the proposal alongside other potential solutions. This comes as Europe grapples with an ongoing energy crisis and rising fuel costs. Urso emphasized that Italy has managed fuel price increases better than other European nations, citing a 4.6% increase in diesel prices last month, compared to an EU average of 11.42%. Germany saw an even larger increase, at 24%. The minister noted no other European countries have yet introduced additional emergency measures to address rising fuel costs.
