Following recent tremors near Büyükada, Istanbul, geoscientist Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy has reassured the public. The earthquakes occurred just two days after the 27th anniversary of the devastating 1999 earthquake. However, Üşümezsoy stated these micro-earthquakes are not indicative of an impending major Istanbul earthquake. He clarified there is no reason for public concern regarding this recent seismic activity. The events represent normal geological movements in the region, rather than a precursor to a larger event. Experts continue to monitor the situation, but currently see no heightened risk.
